Chăm sóc cây mai không quá phức tạp, nhưng để có một cây mai đẹp và khỏe mạnh, ngoài những kỹ thuật cắt, tỉa, tưới nước,... Người chơi mai cần lưu ý nhiều yếu tố. Dưới đây là hướng dẫn chi tiết về kỹ thuật bón phân và chăm sóc cho cây mai vàng bonsai theo từng giai đoạn.
Đặc điểm của cây mai vàng
Cây mai có dáng vẻ thanh cao, thuộc loại cây đa niên, sống và phát triển tốt đến hơn một trăm năm. Mai vàng là cây thân gỗ, cứng cáp, cành hơi giòn nhưng vẫn có thể uốn để tạo dáng cây. Thân cây xù xì và nhiều cành nhánh, tán lá thưa. Cây mai trồng từ hạt có thể cao tới 20 - 30m, với gốc cây khá to và bộ rễ đâm sâu tới 2 - 3m.
Lá mai vàng là lá đơn, mọc xen kẽ, hình trứng thuôn dài, màu xanh biếc với mặt dưới hơi ánh vàng. Hoa mai vàng là hoa lưỡng tính, mọc từ các nách lá, tạo thành từng chùm. Ban đầu là vỏ lụa, sau đó nở bung ra những chùm nụ xanh non, rồi nở thành những cánh hoa vàng tươi rực rỡ. Hoa mai thường có 5 cánh nhưng có bông đặc biệt lên tới 9 - 10 cánh, nở trong 3 ngày sẽ tàn.
Mặc dù hoa mai thường nở vào mùa xuân, nhưng do thời tiết thay đổi, cây mai có thể nở sớm hoặc trái mùa. Nếu hoa đậu quả, bầu noãn của hoa sẽ phình to và kết hạt sau khi hoa tàn.
Chuẩn bị đất
Vùng đất thấp: Cần lên líp rộng 1 - 1,2m, có rãnh thoát nước để tránh cây bị úng ngập khi mưa hoặc nước ngầm dâng cao, có thể làm thối rễ mai.
Đất trồng: Xới đất cho tơi xốp, nhặt hết cỏ dại, gạch đá.
Bón lót
Phân bón: Sử dụng 3 - 5kg đất dinh dưỡng chuyên trồng mai Better, trộn với 0,3 - 0,5 kg phân hữu cơ sinh học Better HG01 cho mỗi hố trồng.
Trồng trong chậu: Trộn đất với phân theo tỷ lệ 3 - 4 phần đất, 1 phần phân hữu cơ. Rải một phần phân hữu cơ xuống hố, đặt cây, rải tiếp phân hữu cơ quanh gốc rồi lấp đất, lèn chặt.
Tưới nước
Mùa nắng: Tưới hàng ngày để đất đủ ẩm.
Mùa mưa: Đảm bảo tiêu thoát nước tốt, chỉ tưới khi đất khô. Mai trồng trong chậu cần tưới nhiều lần hơn so với mai trồng trong đất.
Thời điểm tưới: Sáng sớm hoặc chiều mát, tránh tưới quá đẫm vào chiều tối để ngăn ngừa sâu bệnh do độ ẩm cao vào ban đêm.
Bón phân thúc
Sau trồng 15 - 20 ngày: Rễ mai đã ăn ra lớp đất mới, cần tưới phân thúc bằng cách hòa 15 - 25g phân Better NPK 16-12-8-11+TE/10 lít nước tưới vào gốc.
Lượng phân: Rải phân Better NPK 16-12-8-11+TE hoặc NPK 12-12-17-9+TE quanh gốc với lượng 20 - 30g/cây.
Xới đất: Kết hợp xới đất để vùi lấp phân, giảm bớt thất thoát phân do bay hơi, rửa trôi.
Phân hữu cơ: Sau 3 - 4 tháng từ khi trồng, bón 0,5 - 1 kg phân hữu cơ sinh học Better HG01/cây.
Tháng 10 âm lịch: Giảm lượng phân và nước tưới để chuẩn bị cho giai đoạn phân hóa mầm hoa, phun phân bón lá Better KNO3 định kỳ 7-10 ngày/lần.

Biện pháp xử lý để mai vàng ra hoa đúng tết
Chọn loại mai phù hợp: Lựa chọn loại mai vàng có thời gian ra hoa phù hợp với văn hóa và thời điểm Tết của bạn.
Vị trí trồng: Đảm bảo cây mai được trồng ở vị trí có ánh sáng và không bị nhiệt độ quá cao.

Mai chưng ngoài sân hoặc trồng đất: Lặt bỏ hoa, tỉa cành cho cây thông thoáng, bón phân và chăm sóc để cây hồi sức.
